West Dean Gardens

A place of tranquillity and beauty in the rolling South Downs, West Dean features a restored walled kitchen garden with some of the finest Victorian glasshouses in the country. Carefully trained fruit trees, rows of vegetables and exotic fruit and flowers contrast with rustic summerhouses, a 300ft Edwardian pergola and ornamental borders in the extensive grounds. A circular walk through an arboretum offers breathtaking views of the countryside and the flint mansion of West Dean College. The visitor centre has a licensed restaurant and gift shop. The Sussex Barn Gallery features exhibitions by internationally renowned and emerging artists as well as tutors and students of the college.
