Type: Garden

A winner of the Historic Houses Association/Christie's Garden of the Year Award and one of the finest gardens in England. Many eras of English history are reflected at Pashley, typifying the tradition of the English country house and its garden. This is a quintessential English garden of a very individual character with exceptional views over the surrounding countryside.

Dating from the 18thC the formal gardens offer a sumptuous blend of romantic landscaping, imaginative plantings and fine old trees, fountains, springs and large ponds, with interest and colour throughout the year. The house itself is a family home and regrettably not open to the public.

An exciting programme of events for 2008 includes the Tulip Festival in late April/early May; Sculpture fortnight mid May; Special Rose Weekend in June; Lily Time at the end of July/early August; and the Sussex Guild Craft Show end of August.

There is also a permanent exhibition and sale of Sculpture and Botanical Art.

Pashley has an excellent licensed Garden Room Cafe which serves light lunches, afternoon teas, coffee and cakes with a strong emphasis on using local produce wherever possible and herbs, salads and vegetables from the garden when in season. During warm weather, visitors can enjoy their refreshments on the terrace overlooking the moat or in the shade of the Jubilee Courtyard.

The shop, located at the front of the Grade I Listed Manor House in the splendid oak-panelled Great Hall, sells many gifts from postcards and local honey to traditional hand-painted ceramics and tapestry cushions. Plants and shrubs, many of which grow at Pashley, are also on sale.

Pashley hosts marquee weddings from May to September and is also available on specific days for private hire and corporate events.
