The road may be long and winding but the perfect watering hole is just round the corner
There are walkers and there are walkers, separated by a sliding scale from long distance hiker to once round the park dog walker. It’s the same with cyclists and horse-riders. The ‘committed enthusiast’ is only distinguishable from the ‘keen but once in a blue moon amateur’ when they venture into the great outdoors.
If you’re with a mixed ability family or group of friends a little planning ensures maximum walking enjoyment. Following a marked route? You’ll see which paths are tougher, longer and steeper so you can seek or avoid them. Take responsibility for scheduling pit stops at the many wonderful Sussex pubs and cafes en route.
Open your eyes to the sights, sounds and smells of a woodland trail, a country lane shaded by overhanging trees, the movement of shingle on the beach. Challenge yourself with part of, or all of, the South Downs Way, the High Weald Landscape Trail, the Wey-South Path, the 1066 Country walk or the Cuckoo Trail.
There are hundreds of walking, cycling and horse-riding routes available to explore across Sussex. They can be found at Rural Ways.
Come the end of the day you will want to put your feet up, relax and have a goods nights sleep at one of the many accommodation providers across Sussex that offers facilities for walkers and cyclists.
